I was invited to be an exhibitor and a featured artist of Woman, Create, an online platform for women empowerment based in Manila, Philippines.
The works were exhibited and sold for a cause (Young Focus PH). The theme of the exhibit and event was focused on the perspective of the Filipinos on Feminism.
"Lupigin ang Takot" | Conquer Fears
22" x 30"
Mixed Media on Watercolor
This piece seeks to answer the fears of anyone who is hurting and healing.
When I was experimenting on this new style, I had a hard time finishing it --- with thoughts of: failure to meet my satisfaction, fear of losing my ability / skill after many months of not practicing drawing, painting and working on my personal expressive artworks, and fear of judgement.
I envisioned this portrait to be a reminder to rise everytime by placing my self-portrait in the midst of elements of hope and love.
"Kababae Mong Tao" | You're a Girl
15" x 22"
Mixed Media on Watercolor Paper
This piece is an answer to one of the most infamous and common phrases used upon women --- "Kababae mong tao".
The artwork illustrates symbolisms of menstruation, body positivity, and the rise of a woman towards opening up on who she is: how she looks like, what she thinks of and what her truth is --- by owning different possibilities and abilities which she must not be hidden but celebrated.
"Huwag" | No
15" x 22"
Mixed Media on Watercolor Paper
This piece is an answer to boxed ideas and labels of women that people speak of --- watered down perspectives of femininity and beauty.
The artwork illustrates women --- opening up and clearing the hands, which symbolise the minds and talking heads that try to influence her to believe that she is supposed to be x and y, for her to be called a woman. The woman in the piece begs to differ and wants to be her own self with her own reality of what she is as a woman and human being.
